The Wednesday batch was bad… to say the least. I added too much baking soda that gave it a sharp soapy taste, and made it very hard like rock buns. The butter and eggs were not enough so the dough was very crumbly and just bad! I also tried to use splenda instead of sugar, the combination of excess baking soda, splenda, insufficient eggs and butter was just nasty. One bite gave me a headache.

But as they say, experience is the best teacher right? Yesterday’s muffins were fabulous. They were rich, sweet, spicy and full of flavor. I ate 2 I/2 in one sitting, with a glass of whole milk…… o my waistline! B stopped by and had 2 whole ones and my remaining half. N had just one, but wished she could have another. Alas, she had reached her caloric count for the day. I plan to try out a recipe with half and half sugar/splenda and see how it tastes. The recipe is a modified version of one I found on “epicurious”.

Ingredients
1 stick salted butter, melted and cooled
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup whole milk
2 large eggs
1 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup Almond meal
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon cloves
The rind of a whole orange
1 1/2 cups blueberries (7 1/2 oz)
Special equipment: a muffin pan with 12 (1/2-cup) muffin cups; 12 foil or paper muffin liners

Method
Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 400°F. Put liners in muffin cups.
Whisk together butter, brown sugar, milk, and egg in a bowl until combined well. Whisk together flour, almond meal, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Add milk mixture and stir until just combined. Fold in blueberries gently.
Divide batter among muffin cups and bake until golden brown and a wooden pick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes.

** BlueMond is derived from “Blueberry” and Almond”

10:09AM

SB600

3:10PM

Happy New Year!!!! It was great seeing family and friends during the holidays in 12/09. I am very thankful to God for keeping my loved ones alive, in peace, in good health and happiness.
Apart from the man and his crying toddler sitting beside me on the way back, I really enjoyed the trip and could not have asked for anything better.

2010 has kicked in and I’m left wondering again about what to do this year. Need some other means of making or getting that ‘Ego’. It’s highly critical at this point.
On a brighter side, got the SB-600 I have been longing for, I am so excited, and can’t wait to start snapping away in good weather.

First pic with the SB600!!!

Thanks for stopping by MyneW, S’Sydelle and JoanPeck. type='text'>Happy New Year....

I have been well. Thanks for all your concern, and for checking up on me. I am grateful

So much has happened, it has been good news all the way, thank God!

My Random Post for today:

Today i sent Betty (a colleague) pictures of Terry - our faithful Alsatian in Nigeria, after she had been bothering me about seeing pictures of him.

I met her later in the hallway and we talked briefly about how handsome and big Terry is. Betty said "he is such a huge GSD" i said "Yes, i always told you he was, that is why i am so cautious around him". Fred and ignorate colleague who was standing with us then said "wow is he that big, do you ride him to the market"? and started laughing

I said "No" but wish i had said something just as stupid

I wonder about the sheer ignorance of people like Fred. Thier lack of shame to boldy display such folly and/or crack such witless jokes amazes me. It is rather unfortunate... for them.

Happy Birthday Omulu!!!!!

Today is my 24th birthday, i'm soo excited and grateful to God for:

sparing my life

good health

provision

protection

Onyinyechukwu

B

everyone that loves me

everyone i love

Making me so successful

answered prayers

my salvation

my parents, dscribe, adia, and my brother

my friends

my extended family

my cousins that have found thiuer life patners

my cousins that have had childrens

prayer God will anser soon

my Pastor

my Church

my House

my Husband

my Children

God's favor upon my life

God's grace

God's mercies and goodness that i don't deserve

Father Lord i thank you soooooo much, Lord who can be compared to you? I’m absolutely in love with my boobies, my fingers, toes and legs….. Father Lord I really thank you O! Compliments of the season. I know I have not posted in a long time, it’s not like I forgot my blog buds, and there hasn’t been much to blog about. A very big to thanks to all those who inquired about me.

Anyway, I am very well and happy; Onyinye is just as well too. B and I have been going through a really turbulent period lately. He started this very rigorous professional program that has been taking all of his time. We get to talk only about 10 minutes in a day, sometimes I get to see him only once in a whole week! It hasn’t been fun at all. We have broken up like 3 times in less than 3 months and gotten back together. LOL. We recently renewed our “commitment” to each other J I went to see him two days ago in the middle of a snow storm (it was my first time driving in the snow),and met him eating supper. We talked a bit, and he excused himself, while I kept myself busy in his bedroom closet (I like to go through my sister’s purses, B’s closet, and wallet). I went through, found nothing interesting and was about settling down when he came in with this really boyish grin on his face.

“So you have seen it ehn? Why are you so nosy?” he said? I was like “seen what”? Funny enough, I had missed the huge red Macy’s shopping bag down below sitting comfortable on his laundry pile. He shoves me off gently and pulls the bag saying “this was supposed to be your Xmas present; I don’t know why you enjoy going through my things” Hah! I grabbed the bag excitedly, and peered in to see the contents. Above was what I found, a beautiful huge khaki Coach Carly bag, with dark brown leather trimming and the signature jacquard fabric. Ewooooo! Kai I was happy O! very happy infact. So I now own a Coach! Thank God O! Coach + my darling Onyinye…… nna men I will be painting the town DEEP RED this Christmas! no be small. Father Lord I thank you.

My happiness wasn’t just based on the Coach bag. It was the thought o! Coach is pricey. I was grateful that he appreciated me so much as to spend that much on a bag….. Just for me. Ah, I was really grateful and very humbled too. B, God will continue to bless you and keep you for me, he will bless your going in and coming out, your steps shall be ordered by God alone, the things you desire, God will grant in his infinite mercies, your life will forever be a testimony of God’s goodness, and he will replenish your purse multiple fold. In Jesus Name – Amen.

How was thanksgiving, and how are you preparing for Christmas? I have been trying to come up with creative Xmas and Birthday dishes (my birthday falls in the third week of January). I’m so tired of the standard MD party menu of Jollof rice, Fried rice, stewed beef and chicken, fried fish, Vegetable soup (Efo riro) w/ Pyam, Moinmoin, and Beans. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

In the meantime, enjoy a recipe from Omulu’s Delightful Kitchen, until we meet soon, same place on blogsville. Cheers!

Yam Po’

Description

Yam Po’ aka Yam porridge/Yam pottage is one of those dishes you grew up eating as a Nigerian. Mummy made it once in a while, and we ate it on Friday nights at FGGC Onitsha. IMHO it’s a wholesome meal comprising decent amounts of vitamins, carbohydrate, fats/oil, fiber, protein, and mineral salts. It is filling; this particular recipe will leave you asking for more!

Ingredients:
· Yam
· Water
· Palm oil
· Fresh Chopped Spinach
· Cray fish
· Washed, deboned dry fish
· Scotch bonnet peppers
· Onions
· Chopped red bell peppers
· Chopped tomatoes
· Knorr cubes/ chicken bullion

Method
· Cut the Yam in small pieces and put in a bowl with water
· Blend the peppers, tomatoes and onions – with a small amount of water and pour mixture in a pot
· Pour in the Oil and the crayfish, fish and spices
· Put the yams in the pot with blended mixture, add small water if needed (the amount of liquid will determine how thick or watery your Yam Po’ will be)
· stir
· Leave to cook
· Add the spinach when the yam is just about cooked (to preserve the vitamins and leave the leaves crisp and green)
· Leave to cool
· Enjoy

TIPS
· You can add boiled Kpomo (Cow skin), beef cubes, Oporo (Dried giant shrimps) Smoked – well peppered Ogazi (guinea fowl) or anything else to your Yam Po’. The variations are endless and only limited by your imagination
· Note that some of the proteins like “Oporo” require some prepping such as, soaking in hot water for a few minutes.

FGGC Osha 2, Thanks, Weddings

Continuing from the last post, in Osha we had a very boring but healthy weekly menu

The soups most times contained really small pieces of beef which ended up in the bellies of some very wicked seniors on the table. We had long wooden tables and benches in the dining hall, arranged in about 8-10 rows. In the classroom area, an old rusty hub was mounted on two metal stakes. The hub was struck rhythmically whenever it was time for a meal, the hub, in addition to the bell served as a reminder for everyone that food was ready

Meals always started with a prayer (in the form of a song) usually led by the dining hall prefect or any prefect charged with conducting the meals for that day. Thereafter, rows were called to go and pick up their tureens of food. Afterwards the food was shared by people on the table. Ooooo I forgot to add, many of us made use of the slightest opportunity we had to show off. In my school, there were correct “levels”. During meals for instance we had to bring in our own utensils, the utensil levels ranged from plastic cups to stainless steel, ceramic mugs, and glass tumblers. Some babes used plastic plates as well, others stainless steel (this was most popular), nice flowered ceramic, fine china, some ajebota’s even used disposables!

Mealtimes were always a bittersweet affair especially during my Junior School year, because the seniors always found a reason to punish juniors during or after mealtimes. I remember grueling moments of kneeling down and raising or flying my arms for hours. Mealtimes also brought good memories for a few because they usually shared letters during meals and announced items that were lost but found. I remember one occasion vividly when I got my very first “love letter” from the second boy that ever toasted me. OMG these memories make me laugh so hard……. I felt so grown and mature, receiving a love letter….. dang it really felt good. Stay tuned for more FGGC Osha gist

Today is the 24 of August 2007. Hmmmm the year is coming to an end really fast. I’m thankful to God for what he has done for me and my family thus far. I’m thankful for the ideas, the numerous opportunities, good health, provision, for giving me people to love, and people that love me, for his presence in my life even when I am so unfaithful, Lord I’m really Thankful

I’m thankful for my family and friends that have found people to share their lives with. I dedicate this section to Cousin Arthur whose wedding is tomorrow in Naija. Arthur please allow Jesus to take the wheel in your lives. I pray that God will provide you with everything you need to take care of your wife and your children, I pray that God will grant you the grace to love her as Christ loved the church, to protect her, and to be with her till death do you part (no cheating). I pray that your wife will be like the virtuous woman in the bible, she will honor and obey you, shore up for you in areas where you are lacking, she will support you in all your endeavors, she will not only be your wife but your friend, your lover, another cousin for us, she will never rebel against you, she will not turn her back on you, God will grant her the grace to take very good care of you. In Jesus Name – Amen

Most of all Arthur, I pray that your new home will replicate God’s original plan for marriage. I pray that this union will mark the beginning of the best days of your life, and will open doors to all our family members that are still waiting for their life partners in Jesus name Amen.

FGGC Onitsha, Dove Radio and other random Musings

Hi Readers,

i hope you have been very well and happy. Happy month of August! i wish you a continuos flow of God's blessings, loads of favor in the eyes of God and the eyes of men and an improved relationship with God.

I have been very well and happy, Onyinye is doing great as well. I got her registered, changed her brakes, engine oil, and transmission fluid..... i am yet to give her a proper wash, however she has been such a good girl on the road.

Do you guys listen to liveway radio- an RCCG dove media station? it is very uplifting. i started listening to it, and i just can't stop! they feature christain music from all parts of the world, Audio drama's from Mike Bamiloye's stable, and preaching from different men of God including Pastor EA on a daily basis 24 hrs. As a matter of fact, you can listen to the ongoing RCCG 50th Anniversary program live on the station. Yesterday as i was listening to one of the praise and worship sessions, one song stood out and brought back soooooo many memories from FGGC Osha.

I don't remember the song now, but i remember our "Cherry House" version. We used to sing this song after the inter-house sports competition, whenever cherry house won:

Cherry Girls are "duwai" (the way)

Cherry Girls are "duwai ai ai ai"

Cherry Girls are "duwai"

are "duwai"

are "duwai"

FGGC Onitsha was such a great place. i hated it when i was there but now i look back, i have some wonderful and not so great memories. We did not have running water, we had to go to a natural spring inside the woods to get water everyday. Good thing was the water was from a spring so it was always clean. As a result of this water condition, people used to tap buckets of water, others will beg for bowls at the spring entrance instead of going all the way

One very unique thing about most federal schools is the varied population it attracts. In the six years i spent at Osha, i noticed very different groups of girls. We had the rich, poor, beggar, thieves, ultra rich - many of the people in this group used to go abroad, middle class - most of the girls here had decent provision lockers, lagos babes - usually the "happening" babes, ajebota's, Onitsha babes - who were mostly very "ibotic", Enugu babes - who i felt tried so hard to meet up to the "lagos" standard, girls from the north - who had the best hair making skills, girls from the west......., Born-again babes, and the hard-core bubbulars.

We had about 7 houses at the time, - Cherry, Bougainvillea, Zinnia, Ixora, Jasmine, Rose, Allamanda. In each of the houses we had representatives from one of the groups. There were really weird girls, “witches” who flew at night, strong Christian sisters of the SCM that will stay up all night casting away the demons, at one point I think when I was in JS2; there was one “Witch” accused of stealing someone’s kidney! lol

The Lagos girl’s and few babes from the west in my opinion happened to be the “hottest” girls at the time in terms of knowing the latest plantashun boys songs, having sole possession of ijebu garri, having some of the best baffs, usually lacking the thick Ibo accent (for example, our “Red” was “Red” not “Led”, “Lorry” was definitely not “Rorry”), and generally having the best second-hand (okirika) night shirts, marks and spencer undies – thanks to “Aswani” … well apart from the babes who used to travel abroad.

Stay tuned for more FGGC Osha gist

Random Stuff

Hi people,
Thanks Thanks Thanks to everyone who commented on the "Onyinye" post. Thanks O! may the things of rejoicing never cease from your life in Jesus Name - Amen! I just had to write about the lunch i had today. Men it was out of this world.... OMG you know how it feels when good food takes you to places you only dreamt of..... thats how i felt today at my desk... boy o boy!!!!! infact, as i type now i'm still recovering from the effects of the food. Okay i will briefly tell you what i ate and how it was prepared:

Name: Seafood-veggie-Penne romance w/ Grilled Salmon
Origin: A blend of Italian/Nigerian/Asian favorites

Ingredients:
a can of Hunts tomato sauce
Salmon fillet
dry penne pasta
coriander
turmeric
Fresh Garden egg leaves
garlic powder
Adobo
freshly ground black pepper
Onions
Imitation crab meat
salt
Gourmet bell peppers (i used the orange ones)
extra virgin olive Oil

Method

Bring some water to a boil and add the pasta

Oil a fry pan lightly and heat it up

season the salmon with pepper, salt, garlic, (i like using Ms Dash), and any spices you like

place seasoned fish in the fry pan and leave to cook

Do not flip the fish to the other side until it is fully browned, then flip

when both sides have browned, remove from stove top and leave to cool

heat up some oil in saucepan, (i like to use a Wok look-alike) and add chopped onions, garden egg leaves, bell peppers, ground pepper, salt, spices and crab meat

Stir for about 6 minutes and add tomato sauce

Leave to simmer for about 5-7 minutes then turn off the heat

The pasta must have cooked by now

pour away the boiling water and rinse with cold tap water

Season with oil/butter/i can't believe its not butter and salt

Dish out your food.... with the sauce on top of the pasta and the salmon on the side

Mmmmmmm Mmmmmmm Delic!!!

You can jazz up this meal with a side of steamed brocolli w/ slivered almonds, and a Zobo/Sprite cocktail!

Observations: EVOO brings this really nice and subtle taste to every meal and its a great healthy option, I'm absolutely in love with the slightly bitter after taste gotten from the garden egg leaves, Imitation crabs can't pass for crabs but they taste really good! really i must say, especially when the seasoning is not overpowering, plus the brand i use has no cholesterol, no trans fat and absolutely no saturated fat... with only 80 calories per serving. Zobo is ultra fabulous when its flavored with fresh ginger and *extra* sugar

Some people/ Things in Naija never cease to amaze me

Did u know that one of the requirements for graduation at Covenant University is to test negative for pregnancy and HIV? and that if a person tests positive for HIV he/she "will have to receive his or her healing before he or she is released, while female students who are pregnant will not be allowed to graduate.”

Please click here for more gist on this topic

Onyinyechukwu

Praise the lord(repeat)

Praise the Lord (repeat)

Praise the Lo-oo-ord

Praise him

Praise his holy na-aa-ame

Praise the lord

*drums beating*

Please praise God with me OOOOO!!! i bought my car yesterday.... summertime beauty mehn. I pray July brings you happiness, answered prayers, success, breakthrough's, favor, divine promotion and abundant blessings in Jesus name Amen.

I'm sure you all heard about the death of our fellow Nigerian Osamuyiwa Aikpitanhi during his deportation from Spain. The spanish deportation officers were said to have tied his hands and feet, and had duck tape over his mouth. Our brother died before he got to Nigeria. Today Nigerians worldwide are protesting his death. We have representatives from the U.S., U.K., and Africa. Please visit http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com for details about this case.

I feel so very proud to be a Nigerian right now, for once in quite a while We are taking a stand against evil meted upon our very own. The adminstrators of NVS have organized donations for those who want to donate to the family of the deceased. To think that our collective voices have been heard and the Nigerian FG is doing something about this case! Ah i'm really happy and grateful to God O! Please those of you that will not be participating in the protest, remember the participants in your prayers today, you can also visit NVS and sign the protest letter that will be delivered to most Spanish Embassies worldwide today at noon.

NVS interviewed the family of the deceased and took photographs as well. One brave Nigerian who was on board at the time of Osamuyiwa's death was also interviewed. Pictures and podcasts are available on NVS. Nigeria will not experience a positive change until we as individuals begin to take our stand. It is true that the government doesn't really care about us, but when we gather in one voice, things happen. This is a solid example.

Today, I am really proud to be a Nigerian.
Today I believe that our country can be salvaged,
Today I believe that few Nigerians who don't even know each other can actually put aside religion, and tribe and do something so remarkable,
Today I believe that we can rise far far above corruption, greed, and selfishness
Today my hope in Nigerian has been restored

God bless Oguzie (a patroitic Nigerian, unrelated to the deceased, who brought the complaint to NVS and requested action)
God bless Big K, the Administrators, Elders, Villagers and JJC at the village square
God bless all Nigerians who have and are participating in our collective effort to put an end to the ill-treatment Nigerians in the diaspora recieve
God Bless all Nigerians who are trying hard to improve the situation of our country
God Bless our President
God Bless Nigeria
Long Live Nigeria!

The Dream

Last night i had a strange strange dream

I was the bride at a midnight wedding

Boo was the groom

The cake arrived very late

The person preparing the food fell asleep

We had to go to her house next door to wake her up

And help pack the food in coolers

My dress had to be ironed, and small alterations were done

On the wedding day

Everyone seemed happy except me

I didn't know how to react

I must have been in a confused state

Everywhere was dark except the dim lights at the wedding venue

Which was a town house........ seemed like it was down town

Then i was seated at the head of a huge oval table

I had my friends from FGGC and few from College around the table

A girl at church who is a "hi hello person" prepared some Egusi and Vegetable

We all sat down to eat

I asked where is "Yemi" a girl i met at college who is a "hi hello naija person"

But was my friend in the dream

They say she's dead

I'm sad, i do not eat

I woke up a little troubled.

God please are you trying to tell me something? From his preaching that day, i left with a few points concerning the role of a father which include being:

A mentor

A role-model

A guide

A friend

A provider

and much more

After the preaching that day i resolved to marry a man just like my daddy, or no one at all because every role that was mentioned defined the daddy i had always known. My Daddy indeed epitomizes the role of a father. In my early early years, i remember my daddy carrying me on his shoulders, taking pictures of almost every move i made - we still have those pictures, recording my voice during our "interview" sessions, and buying me stuff.

As i grew older, his love and affection for me did not wax cold...... not at all, i still remember the mug he bought me for my 10th birthday.... i think, it was a big white mug that had the drawing of a Lion, a rabbit and a tortoise. The day the handle broke i wept sooooo much. He bought me my first lacy underwear, which was such a big deal then cos very few of my friends had lacy underwears. He still buys me really nice bras when he visits london.

Daddy is a loving disciplinarian too O! he has beat me very few times........ fewer than mummy lol, but i remember them so vividly. He is such a wise man, he has given me so much advice in this my little life ehn........... my boyfriend loves talking to him because of the free advice daddy offers. The night before i came to America, daddy called me into his room, climbed a stool and brought out an envelope of money... 5000USD from the curtain box. He told me about how he had been saving the money for many years from his travels. There were a bunch of $1 bills, some fives, few tens and twenty's. He told me that going to America at that age(my age at the time) was an opportunity he never had, one many people only wish to have, and one some may never have.

He reminded me about how i was the first born, that failure was not an option for me or any of his children, how i could be very successful if i put God first, avoid men..... lol and study really hard. He said i must never go to the "club" because they put something in the drinks that will make me fall asleep, get raped, and then have a wasted life! lol daddy. He told me that if i went to America, remained a "good godly girl" , studied hard and succeeded, my siblings will not only have a point of reference, but i will make him and mummy very happy and proud (that was one of my greatest desires at the time...... it still is!).

Daddy told me he "loved me" at the airport something he rarely says!

By the time i got to college, and found myself far way from home, i began to appreciate my Daddy much more than ever because i met people that had Daddy's but not fathers, people that considered themselves fatherless even though their daddy's were alive, Most of all, i started working and soon realized how much daddy and mummy had sacrificed to get me to college and meet my needs. Daddy used to call us at least 3 times in a week, he still calls every saturday.

Thank God for the internet, even though my parents are still a little technologically challenged, My daddy will still get his secretary to check his mailbox and retrieve any important emails from us such as my numerous requests for resume/cover letter proof-reading. Sometimes i will send my academic papers to him and he'll read it and give me feedback. Ah! daddy God will keep you for me O! He was, and continues to be such a great source of encouragement to me. Sometimes when i get into mini states of depression and remember all that my daddy has said i will achieve if only i try, how much Mummy and him pray for us everyday, the depression flies away quickly.

Daddy also has a wicked sense of humor! chai Daddy is so funny, all my friends like him. He's also very handsome, has the hottest legs and most beautiful feet/fingers ever. When my friends make the mistake of telling him how gorgeous he looks, he starts joking about how they are trying to psych him because of "his money" lol daddy. He tells us the most ridiculous stories of his days in the Biafran war, his youthful days as a "backup singer" - when all the babes were tripping for him, his day's in college - when he had the best sound system, one of the best camera's on campus........ My daddy also mimics people very well. you need to hear his Indian, African american, and oyinbo accents. Or the way he mimics mummy's infectious laughter......... when he does that and mummy is near, she laughs even harder!

I decided to write this today because Daddy has been around for some weeks, he's going back home next week. This morning he woke up unusually early cos he said he wanted to see where i worked. He followed me to work, and pronounced all kinds of blessings on me, my desk, my chair, my office, the company, even the computer sef! I was so touched....... i started crying. Did i mention that most days before i leave for work he prays for me - as in placing his hand on my head kind of prayer.....

Daddy, God will keep you in good health, and grant you long life for mummy and us, you will reap the fruits of your labor, no one else will harvest where you have sown, none of us will put you to shame, may the God we faithfully serve grant you all your heart desires, and make your joy full. Daddy i pray that God will give us the grace to nurture our children the way you and mummy have nurtured us, your business will grow far more than your wildest imaginations, above all Daddy, God will give you the grace to continue serving him faithfully, to continue abiding and his presence, and to continue being his child and friend. In Jesus name Amen.

I love you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo very much Daddy!

Nigerian Weddings

I was going through some wedding sites today, and i must say i'm totally astounded at the amout of money we spend on weddings, the glamour, clothes and all for just one day? anyway sha its once in a life time abi? but its almost like a mini competition now. i see myself comparing websites and pictures.... most times i catch myself going "hmmm i think her clothes are finer, and colors better coordinated", "these ones don't look like they are really in love O!" "awwwwww match made in heaven"......

My first port of call is usually the "Our story/how we met" section, after that i proceed to "proposal", "pictures" and registry. I pay particular attention to the registry because it gives me an idea of the couple's personality, and how well the guests responded (if the wedding already occured) to the gift requests. One website caught my eye today because the registry not only had the traditional departmental stores -Macy's and all, but the couple had requested a brand new Benz straight from MBUSA. What a way to start their life right......... I had never seen a car request on these sites O! i hope someone bought it for them.

I'm glad i saw the site, because it has given me many ideas. My own wedding site registry will contain traditional gifts, Cars, A House - with mortgage fully covered (complete with a link to contact the long and foster agent), Honeymoon cash gifts, and regular cash gifts.

My browsing sessions usually end with a short prayer for the couple - that thier marriages will be exactly what God purposed it to be. After all the glam, publicity, and financial anaemia some families may suffer after the wedding, it will be very sad to hear that the marriage packed after some years.

Random Musings

Praise the Lord with me guys, i passed my driving test! i now have a license! i'm a complete driver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm really grateful to God O!. for all of you that remembered me in your prayers, thanks O! my God will remember you as well. Kpando nwannem thanks for checking up on me.

May is already here, i'm preparing for graduation on the 20th, still figuring out how to celebrate. I'm considering few options:
1. have a "come n chop" in my house: will order Jollof rice, stewed fried chicken, Ofe egusi and pounded yam from the caterer in my church. Complete with drinks from Sam's club, and cake from "charm city" cakes, as i would like to pamper myself on that day by avoiding the kitchen.
2. go out to a restuarant with family and friends
3. cook something special ("special" denotes exquisite delights excluding rice dishes, ofe egusi, ofe okra, ofe ogbono, and cheeseburgers) at home, such as ............. hmm can't even think of anything
4. do nothing and just enjoy a regular sunday afternoon with my family

During my undergrad years i had this toaster that toasted me for like 1 1/2 -2yrs. My mummy always warned us to avoid relationships that we do not see ending up in marriage, so i refused to date toaster (i'll call him Bode) because he was
* just 2 years older than me (i could only marry someone that was at least 5 yrs older)
* Yoruba (mummy and daddy said we must marry only Igbo's. we could marry yoruba's if we chose but whatever fate befell us, was our own doing)
* He was Razz (I was a Lagos babe for crying out loud, how could i marry someone that had the "h" factor, spoke very loud on the phone, had a thick yoruba/americana accent, spoke either yoruba or pidgin 95% of the time, carried his complete toilet bag in his pigeon hole, and a bunch of pots and pans in his trunk? )
Bode was also very intelligent, caring and romantic. We would spend hours on the phone gisting, listening to a popular radio station that played love songs at night, sometimes he would come to my school (then i lived on campus) where he always professed his unending love for me. My reply was always the same "it won't work"
Bode finally got the message when i started talking with my Goke (my current/ex bloke). we remained friends, we even attend the same church........ everyone moved on. Bode started seeing this babe and started bringing her to church. When i first met her, i felt a slight pang of jealousy........ i don't know why mehn, i'm even embarrassed to admit sef. Anyway for the past 2 months i had been noticing a ring on this babe's finger O! but i was like na lie... its some fashion crap...... omo mehn i confirmed this past sunday. That ring was an original engago ring! Chai! infact i cleaned my eyes very well, asper i wear glasses now, maybe i didn't see well. The thing was real my people...................... i felt so... jealous..... angry......happy for them...... I wonder why though shebi i told the bobo i did not want? do you ever experience such feelings?

Random Thoughts

Praise God its April! The days seem to be flying so much... or maybe its because i have been quite busy at work recently. I'm enjoying my job, and i remain very grateful to God for giving me a job, giving me good health to be able to work, and favor in the eyes of my colleague's but...... these days, after work i feel a little idle, i want to go back to school and study something...... anything..... and thats were the problem lies.

I have a passion for food, i love cooking, i daydream about what to cook, how to garnish my culinary works, and when i look into my future, i see a world renowned chef in me. For many years i have nursed this dream of graduating from a Culinary Arts instituition. I really want to be addressed as "Dr. Omuluzua" sometime in my lifetime. I am torn between two strong desires: getting a Phd, and pursuing my lifelong dream of being a world class Chef. whats your take? I really have to seek the face of God O! in the mean time, i will continue working, cooking, and reading.

Tommorow is Sunday, and its someone's 50th bday in my church, there will be a reception as well. I really like love songs, i absolutely adore Luther and have been listening to "Endless Love" all day. I really want to get married soon.............. lol i hope i don't sound desperate, its seems so far away now cos i'm in a 5 yr old relationship i sometimes have doubts about, and these love songs worsen my situation. Anyway my God will do it O!

So today, i made a big pot of beans for the week. Good thing i really enjoy beans these days, cos i'm trying so hard to shed some weight, and a small scoop of beans makes me so full, i'd feel as if i ate a complete Nni Ji/Ofe Nsala meal. I guess that'll help me. I also made jelly doughnuts from scratch! they tasted so good.... i wish i could post some here so everyone will have a piece. I don't just want to loose weight, i desire a complete lifestyle change.......today i bought two packs of Bare Naked Granola(with fruit and nuts), tomatoes, and blackeyed peas - to begin my journey towards a healthier lifestyle.

I still have not started driving...... i must call the driving school guy O! first thing tommorow..........hmmmm before the LP expires. I really can't wait to start driving! i'll be a lot more comfortable and free to go anywhere.... especially on the weekends - Have a blessed weekend all and a great week ahead!

Ofe Obi Anwuli (Soup for the Happy heart)

Weekends are usually quite busy/very lazy days for me. On Saturdays i wake up at about 7.30a.m pray, and stay in bed surfing the web, reading or watching movies till about 12 p.m. I get off bed and quickly try to map out the activities of the day. I generally start my saturday by cleaning my room a bit, and then shopping (if the need be - for foodstuff) and cooking and cleaning.

At the end of the day i'm quite exhausted, and will normally continue cleaning after church on sunday. I try to iron my clothes as well or beg my siblings to do it. Sometimes i do not complete "spring" cleaning and continue during the week - between Monday and Tuesday. By Tuesday the house is spik and span.

Yesterday i got home early and did a fantastic job completing my routine. Whenever the house is clean i am so happy, and very comfortable...... infact i experience this brief feeling of elatedness .....its kinda weird but it happens all the time. So in my brief moment of feeling good and "high" I made the tasty soup that cannot even stand near "campbells". Me sef i'm proud of myself, the soup was so tasty and heart -warming thus the name "Ofe obi anwuli - Soup for the Happy heart or Happy-heart soup"

See the Recipe for the Soup below
* Red skinned Potatoes
*Left-over boiled GoatMeat in GoatMeat broth (broth seasoned with ginger, garlic, salt, pepper, bay leaves, onions, Ms. Dash and knorr cubes)
* Carrots
* Brocolli
* Cauliflower
* Celery
* Shallots
*Spices (ground red pepper, salt, garlic, onions,)

Preparation
I just took my frozen "Goat Meat in broth" from the freezer and put it in an oven pan. I chopped the potatoes(with the skin) and all the other veggies and dumped right into the pan with the spices. I left this to cook for about an hour 30 mins....... and behold my wonderful delicious, homemade soup, better than campbells, progresso and all the others put together! i rock my world!!!!!!!

Of cos i brought some to work today and check out the eyes, ears, and noses following the smell of my soup, the sound of my cutlery and the soup on its journey to were it belongs. Just like the "Pizza Hut" advert.

MTA Bus drama 1

Praise the Lord its Saturday. Yesterday he offered me a ride, today i just asked EVERYONE a simple question, ol boy took it upon himself to come to my cube, answer my question, and when i said thanks he acknowledged by brushing his hands lightly on my back!

nways i must keep upgrading my wardrobe........ in the mean time Lady T i hope u r well and happy, hows sch.? Guess what guys? today around 6.30a.m, i got into the bus to go to work, as soon as i had swipped my card my eyes caught sight of this girl sitting down (in the bus O!) with a huge piece of T-bone steak on a paper plate. at 6.30a.m! i'm like gosh this is not happening...... i looked well to make sure it was'nt a plastic piece of steak but mehn the thing was real, complete with smth that looked like a garlic gravy sauce around it. ppl never sieze to amaze me!

Catching the bus can be very tiring, but its also much fun sometimes. there is always drama downtown........ and when there's no drama there's always smth that gives me cause to ponder. Such things range from very very dark skinned women wearing blond hair and red lipstick, people that sleep so hard on the bus that when it jerks roughly they literally fall off thier seats (no exaggerations), to the amount of grime and dirt in downtown buses and in lexington market (Lady T have u ever been there?) Take care everyone, have a beautiful and blessed weekend. Thanks for reading my Blog......... we r having sandwiches for lunch today at work."

So i guess i spoke to soon as yesterday night i was returning home from work, feeling very sorry for myself that on a friday night i was going to be sitting in my bedroom all alone, no movies or dinner with anyone. Little did i know that i had a wonderful package awaiting me on board the MTA MD bus 5. I got on the bus at about 6.45p.m and the bus was almost empty. I found a very comfy seat, settled down and proceeded to listen to my ipod/sleep. Then we got to Saratoga Bus top and a lot of people boarded the bus. At that bus top a very talkative man boarded and started talking all kinds of nonsense. He asked if anyone one on the bus was asthmatic or allergic to cigarette fumes cos he planned to smoke on the bus the way he had been doing since he was 13.

After that he just kept cursing and cracking very funny jokes. Then came this big/tall guy in a Red shirt, black pants and black blazers. since the bus was full he had to stand by the back door. At Fayette bus stop a very curvy African American boarded. She was about a size 10/12 very full in the right places, wearing a green and white satin graphic top, a very tight pair of jeans, wickedly green eyeshadow, a green purse, and a green high heeled pair of pointy shoes. Her hair was very long, black and curly - the kind u get from the beauty shops. She looked like she was ready to party. As soon as she got on the bus, she walked towards the back since there were a few available seats. The red shirt guy goes"Damn" shakes his head and licks his lips in the most lustful manner. I laughed so hard.

The highlight of my Bus ride was when the bus stopped on Broadway to let people off and pick up more people. this guy at the back holds the back door, takes out his thing and starts peeing from the bus! at the bus stop! for all to see, In America??????. No one could believe it! when he was done, he shut the door, the bus continued the journey, the man settled in his seat, and everyone started laughing, some where cursing, others were just talking about the "pee saga". My eyes have seen O!

What r you doing today? i plan to wash and set my hair, cook Jollof rice, Ofe Egusi/Vegetable and clean the house. i have to go to the African store first though. Please can u guys pray for my friend who has been so good to me. his name is B. He's going through very trying times right now, pls pray that God will be with him and perfect everything that concerns him in Jesus Name. Amen. Have a great weekend, and a blessed week.

Verastic's Inspiration

I have finally decided to post a blog after reading Verastic's article on blogging....... hehehehe. My weekend was quite uneventful, my sister and i cleaned up for my other sister's return from Naija. My birthday was on the 17th of January. It was soooooooooooo nice ........... Beemi took my sis and i to dinner after work, the food was really delicious and asper i love food, i appreciated the treat tremendously. Beemi tried O! he also got me an Ipod, a single Dove chocolate rose, and these cards in which he wrote the most touching and romantic words ever.
One of my few friends Lady T also known as Queen Amina woke me up first thing in the morning and sang Happy birthday.......... "awwwwww" i hear you say, i know...she loves birthdays and remembers everyone's day. My parents and siblings in Naija also called, my little sis took me shopping as well....... That sis of mine is soooooo sweet, she can also be highly annoying as well.
As i mentioned earlier, my other sis is coming back tommorow. I can't wait..... the house will be full again and hmmmmmm i'll also get my naija package. Talking about my naija package, does anything on my list look or sound familiar to yours?:

Shingele (different colors: plain and patterned designs)

Lace in different colors and styles (mainly the long fishtail skirts, and tops)

Rich fruit cake (From this unique baker in naija - "Ceaser and Green cakes" that makes specialty cakes ranging from Carrot, Fruit, to Pineapple-upside-down)

Dried Okazi leaves(for one of my favorite delights Ofe Okazi)

Dried Bitter leaves (for Ofe Onugbu)

Costume jewerlry(To match the Laces)

Ankara (sewn in the different latest styles)

And those miniature statues (at Tejuosho market - The Hausa area) to decorate my new office space.

I have started my very first "real" job. Last week i moved into my own cube, and had my name and position tag adorn the entrance. You can't imagine how good i felt....... I'm enjoying the job so far, i'm also missing school, studying, the group meetings at Johns Hopkins, and Jade chinese restuarant.

This Year, i plan to read as many novels as possible particularly christian fiction, and those authored by African writers. Any ideas of the best ones out there? I also plan to listen to lots of songs on my new IP......... which ones are your favorites? I like anything by celine d, luther v, and princess Njideka.
